Laser Rods
for Cosmetic and Aesthetic Laser Systems
The rod is the heart of your laser. It is the crystal gain medium inside the laser head that converts the flash lamp’s pump light into the treatment beam at your system’s wavelength. The crystal type determines the wavelength: alexandrite produces 755nm, Nd:YAG produces 1064nm, and Er:YAG produces 2940nm. Everything else in the laser head, the lamp, the ceramic cavity, and the optics, exists to pump and protect this one component.
Rods are not a preventive maintenance item. A healthy rod lasts the life of the system, so replacement is only needed when the crystal is damaged. The most common cause is contamination: dust anywhere in the laser head, the optics, or the cooling loop can burn the rod over time, which is why the laser head environment must stay spotless.
Damage limited to the rod’s end faces can sometimes be repolished and recoated for far less than a new crystal. Cracks that run through the rod are not repairable. If you are unsure which situation you have, send us photos, and we will give you an honest answer before you spend money.
We also supply and source rods for additional YAG variants and systems not listed here. Send us your system model and we will confirm availability.
